- Updated: November 14, 2024

It was a thrilling matchup. East versus west as the underdog, #12 Northshore Hebrew Academy Lions faced the #5 Valley Torah Wolfpack. Ultimately, Northshore would pull off the upset, securing a 48-39 victory in a game marked by intense defense and fast-paced action.
This was a nail-biter from the tip, both teams showed tenacity, battling through a close, low-scoring first half where every basket counted. The teams were evenly matched, trading points in a defensive struggle that kept fans on edge as the score remained tight. The first quarter ended with Northshore in the lead 12-10.
As the second half began, Valley Torah recognized the need to elevate their defense to keep pace with Northshore’s relentless push. The second quarter showcased both teams pushing the ball with urgency, neither side willing to give an inch. Every possession was hard-fought, and the scoreboard reflected the intensity, staying within a few points throughout the quarter. The end of the first half was tied 24-24.
The third quarter kept up the suspense as both teams vied for control. With the game still hanging in the balance, Northshore managed to hold a narrow lead, responding to each of Valley Torah’s advances. The Lions’ transition game started to shine, but Valley Torah kept the score tight, refusing to let Northshore pull too far ahead. The third quarter ended with Valley Torah ahead by 4 with a score of 32-28.
In the final quarter, Andrew Kohanim emerged as a key player, putting up 10 points that fueled the Lions’ closing drive. His crucial baskets helped Northshore create separation, capitalizing on fast breaks that pushed the game out of Valley Torah’s reach. As the game wound down, the Lions’ quick transitions and pressure on defense allowed them to stretch the lead, sealing their victory with a final score of 48-39.
Northshore’s impressive late-game performance, led by Kohanim’s scoring surge and a collective defensive effort, secured their hard-fought win and underscored their ability to close out close games under pressure.
