KYHS STORM Rains Down on Maimonides M-CATS, 62-16
- Updated: November 14, 2024
The opening game of the Memphis Invitational featured a rematch of last year’s Tier 2 Championship game between the Maimonides M-CATS and the Katz Yeshiva Katz Storm. The Storm showed up strong out of the gate, scoring on their first possession. From the first few minutes, Katz, through their impenetrable press, dominated the game. Haim Elmaikes of Katz scored the game’s first seven points, and ended the quarter with 12. Katz dominated Maimo, shutting them out the whole first quarter. The score at the end of the first quarter was 26-0.
Maimo’s offense looked way more active coming out of the first quarter break. Their shots, however, weren’t falling, and Katz continued to strengthen their lead. Although Katz loosened their press, Maimo wasn’t able to come together for some points; their shots just weren’t going in. The shutout continued until the buzzer at the end of the half. Final score of the half: 45-0.
The third quarter began with a Maimo effort to change the direction of the game as Danny Missaghi scored Maimo’s first points with a layup. He ended the third quarter with 6 points. Katz’s lead, though, was too big to overcome and their offense kept knocking down their shots. Despite Maimo’s best efforts, Katz had strengthened their lead even more by the end of the third quarter with a score of 54-8.
The game came to a close as Katz cruised through the fourth quarter to a victory. The final score was 62-16. Haim Elmaikes led Katz with 12 points and Danny Missaghi led Maimo with 6 points. Other game leaders included Katz’s Ilan Harris with 9 points and 3 rebounds, as well as game rebound leader Noah Seplowitz (6 rebounds) from Katz. Katz will now advance to Tier I and continue to play for the championship trophy, while the M-CATS drop into Tier 2.
