Magen David Yeshiva Warriors Cool Down Montreal HEAT, 51-48

The first game on Saturday night was a Tier 1 matchup in the consolation bracket between the #6 MDY Warriors against the #7 Montreal Heat.

The first quarter set the tone for the game, with Montreal’s Simon Alloul scoring immediately after the tip to give the Heat an early lead. MDY’s Max Abed quickly responded with a three-pointer, and the scoring pace exploded, with both teams reaching double digits within the first three minutes. MDY’s Joshua Chabbot stood out with an impressive nine point effort, helping his team finish the quarter ahead 23-18 in a fast-paced, back-and-forth competition.

Montreal came into the second quarter determined to chip away at MDY’s lead, scoring the first four points. However, Joshua Chabbot halted their momentum with a clutch three-pointer, and Solly Hara extended MDY’s advantage to double digits with an and-one play. MDY managed to maintain their lead throughout the quarter, heading into halftime up 34-25.

Montreal’s Simon Alloul came out strong in the second half, scoring his ninth point of the game and helping his team mount a determined effort. By the final moments of the third quarter, Montreal had trimmed MDY’s lead to just four points, but Solly Hara delivered for MDY with nine points and five rebounds by the end of the quarter. The Warriors entered the fourth with a 43-36 lead.

The fourth quarter saw both teams trading scores, with MDY maintaining a slight edge. Montreal took advantage of a few favorable calls to close within five points with five minutes remaining. Intense efforts from Yaacov Ohayon and Simon Alloul brought the Heat to within three points with just one minute left. Montreal had a chance to tie or take the lead, but a costly turnover ended their hopes. MDY capitalized on the opportunity, holding on for a hard-fought 51-48 victory.

Joshua Chabbot led MDY with an amazing performance, finishing with 22 points and five rebounds. Solly Hara added 11 points and five rebounds of his own, providing crucial contributions at key moments. For Montreal, Yaacov Ohayon delivered an admirable effort with 12 points and seven rebounds.
