The 2012 Cooper Invitational got off to an exciting start as the 6th seeded Chicago Community Tigers took on the 11th seeded Weinbaum Yeshiva H.S. Storm from Boca Raton, FL. The Tigers proved why they were the higher seed early on, getting steal after steal, as well as causing numerous other turnovers by Weinbaum. By the end of the first quarter, Chiacgo lead 11-3. Early on, Chicago displayed superb ball movement, leading to made baskets by 7 of their players within the first 10 minutes. Weinbaum, trying to not let the game get away, kept fighting through. After being put in the double bonus, Weinbaum went on an 8-0 run, continuing to nail free throw after free throw. But after two big 3-pointers by Newlander and Silverman in the final 2 minutes, Chicago maintained their lead in the end of the half, leading 30-23.
