The Cooper Invitational Tier 2 Championship game featured an all California matchup; the #1 de Toledo Jaguars against the #3 YULA Panthers. The Panthers dominated in the first quarter, going up by 10 points with just 2 minutes remaining. The Jaguars struggle to score, just breaking the 5 point mark with less than a minute and a half to go in the first quarter.

deToledo’s defense tried their best to keep the game as close as possible by only giving up one jump shot in the beginning of the quarter to the Panthers. They started to close in, putting up 8 points by the middle of the period. Right as the game was becoming almost even, YULA pushed ahead again, going up 25-19. But as the half ended, the Jaguars continued to claw away at YULA’s lead, making it a one point game in favor of YULA at the half, 25-24.

The Jaguars got the ball to start the second half, looking to gain their first lead of the game. Both teams did very well in stopping the other team’s offense to start the quarter. With free throws being the main mode of scoring, the Jaguars finally took the lead with 3:48 left to the third quarter. YULA struggled to score, scoring only 3 points in the quarter. On the other side, the Jaguars started hitting shots, scoring 11 points against YULA and closed the quarter up 35-28.

In the 4th quarter, The Jaguars defense continued to shut down the YULA offense, holding them to just 8 points, while the Jaguars scored 5 points of their own. YULA finally put up a three ending the Jaguars point streak. Although YULA tried to close the gap down the stretch, it was to no avail, as the Jaguars were able to hang to claim the Tier II Championship by a final score of 45-34.
