Skal Labissiere was living in Port Au Prince on January 12, 2012, when the 7.0 earthquake struck devastating the Republic of Haiti and killing an estimated 300,000 people. Skal sat with his family, trapped, as his house collapsed around him. He was in the wreckage for over three hours, unsure if he or his family would survive, until he was finally rescued.

In the wake of the devastation, Skal made his way to the U. S. through the Reach Your Dream program, a service that relocates disadvantaged children to America. Now, a year and a half later, he has learned English and won a Tennessee state basketball championship all while establishing himself as one of the nation’s top basketball prospects in the Class of 2015.

A 6-11, 220 lbs center, Skal has already received collegiate offers from Kentucky, North Carolina, Georgetown, Baylor, Memphis, and Tennessee, and is a projected lottery pick in ESPN Chad Ford’s 2016 NBA Mock Draft.

One recent national scouting reporter headlined “Skal Labissiere: The Next Tim Duncan…Only with Range”.

Skal will speak at the Invitational’ s Opening Banquet, November 6, 2014.
