The Tier 1 Consolation Game between the Magen David Warriors and the MTA Lions started off slowly with both teams appearing to have some early jitters. MTA picked it up by getting a few layups in the paint and they get off to a 7-2 lead. The Lions then knocked down a three and it was answered by a three by Magen David plus a jumper. The first quarter ended with the MTA Lions up 10-7.

MTA started to take control of the game by kicking off the second quarter with an 11-2 run. The Warriors could not find an answer to the big man, from MTA, Zev Senter. Magen David knocked down a pair of threes, but their defense needed to set things up at the other end and could not do so. Magen David goes on an 8-5 run to cut the lead down to six. But a quick three and a layup give MTA their comfortable lead back. Magen David, refusing to go down easy, knocked down some threes and the lead is back to just six points for the Lions. Morris Dweck hit another three, but Feld matches him on the other end for the Lions. Amin Adjmi hit a buzzer beater short range jumper to put the half time score at MTA 32, Magen David 27.

MTA started the second half strong with an 11 point lead. MTA really started to break away picking their lead up to 14 half way through the 3rd quarter. Zev Senter has his 3rd block in the last 2 minutes, and no one can score in the key when he’s down there. Magen David has to step it up for the 4th quarter since they started the final period down by 14 points. The Warriros were scoring on almost every possession, but they’re still going shot for shot with the Lions. Going shot for shot is OK in the first quarter, but when you’re down 14 with four minutes left, it just won’t do it for you.

MTA stretched the lead out to 19 points with 1 minute left and puts the game out of reach for the Warriors. Dweck ends the game with a beautiful fast break and then an immediate forced turn over, but it’s just a bit too late for it to make a difference. The final score is MTA Lions 67 Magen David Warriors 51 as the MTA Lions win third place in the tournament. Zev Senter led the Lions with 22 points and Joe Dweck led the Warriors with 15 points.
