11-10-2011 #12 Stars Fade down the Stretch as #5 Lions hang on for Victory, 51-45

The MTA Lions, who lost in the Cooper Invitational Championship game last year, returned to the Invitational this year as the #5 seed taking on the #12 Beren Stars. The Lions jumped out of the gate and ended the first quarter up 19-15.

The second quarter started with both teams coming out swinging, and the Lions went into halftime with a small lead. While the Lions opened up a nice lead, the Stars refused to quit, and after going an 11-0 run, closed the gap to 3 points, trailing the Lions, 38-35.

In the fourth quarter, the Stars got to within 2 points a few times, but could never pull ahead. With the Lions hitting their free throws down the stretch, they managed to hold off the Stars and went on to win 51-45.

Zev Senter led the Lions with 20 points and Zach Yosher led the Stars with 20 points too. MTA advances on in Tier 1 to play the Cooper Macs, while Stars go into Tier 2 hoping to pick up their first win of the tournament tomorrow.
