In the second Tier 2 game on Friday, another two teams began fighting for the Tier 2 championship. The Rambam Ravens, originally seeded 14, were coming off of a loss to the YULA PAnthers, and the Atlanta Lions, seeded 16, were coming off of a loss to the Magen David Warriors. Both of these teams appeared to be evenly matched, so the game was shaping up to be a good one.

In the first quarter, the score was 13-12 at the end with the Atlanta Lions in the lead. Shmuel Rosenthal of the Rambam Ravens had 6 points, and in his previous game he had also been a very big contributor to the Ravens offense. On the Lions, John Weissmann was leading his team with 6 too.

In the second quarter, the game continued in the very same way. Both teams were never more than 4 points ahead of each other, each team fighting for a significant lead. Both teams were fighting hard for the chance to play on for the Tier 2 Championship. Throughout the first half, these teams were very reserved, with neither team fouling a lot. However, while there were not many fouls, there was a lot of intensity, with people diving for balls and the coaches screaming out instructions to the players. By the end of the second quarter and a nice buzzer-beating shot by Yarden Sokol of the Ravens, the score was 29-20 with the Ravens leading.

In the third quarter, the Ravens took the lead and didn’t look back. The score at the end of the quarter was 37-29 and it looked like it would be hard for the Lions to come back from this deficit. Fouls again were quiet in the quarter, with no one having over two fouls.

In the fourth quarter, a long distance three put the Lions within five points of the Ravens. Samuel Kalnitz of the Lions was the first player to reach 3 fouls which was followed by Jonah Zrihan of the Ravens a few minutes later. Towards the end of the 4th quarter the score was 42-39 in favor of the Ravens. This was a very tense moment because a three could tie the game. But at the end of the game, the Ravens prevailed by a score of 48-45. The leading scorers were Shmuel Rosenthal of the Ravens with 13 points and Josh Wiessmann of the Lions with 14 points.
