Ben-Shmuel’s Buzzer Beater Ignites Posnack’s Stunning 48–45 Win Over Montreal Heat in First-Round Thriller!
- Updated: October 30, 2025
Game Recap:
In a nail-biting first-round showdown, the #16-seeded David Posnack Jewish Day School Rams pulled off a dramatic 48–45 victory over the Hebrew Academy of Montreal Heat, powered by the heroics of A. Ben-Shmuel (#22) and M. Furer (#12). The game was a back-and-forth battle of grit and poise, capped off by one of the tournament’s most electric moments — a half-court buzzer beater from Ben-Shmuel to close the third quarter, igniting the Rams’ bench and swinging the momentum permanently in their favor.
Rams Rise Behind Relentless Duo:
Ben-Shmuel led all scorers for Posnack with 15 points, adding an unforgettable long-range shot that will be remembered in school lore. His teammate M. Furer poured in 14 points of his own while battling through four fouls, showing toughness and composure down the stretch. G. Shlomi contributed 9 clutch points, while E. Oppen added 3 critical free throws that helped seal the win.
Montreal’s Push Falls Just Short:
The #17-seeded Heat, led by S. Alloul’s 15 points and D. Levy’s 11, kept the pressure on until the final seconds. Their offense flowed through sharp perimeter shooting, but foul trouble and missed late-game opportunities cost them their comeback bid. Despite a balanced team effort — including I. Alloul’s 6 points and A. Edery’s and M. Ohayon’s inside presence — the Heat couldn’t overcome Posnack’s momentum surge after the third-quarter dagger.
The Turning Point:
With the Rams clinging to a narrow lead, Ben-Shmuel’s half-court heave at the third-quarter buzzer brought the gym to life. The shot gave Posnack a psychological edge they never relinquished, with the crowd erupting as the ball banked off glass and in. From that point forward, every defensive stop and free throw from the Rams felt fueled by that energy.
Final Thoughts:
The 48–45 win propels the Posnack Rams into the next round, where they’ll look to ride their momentum — and their newfound March magic — deeper into the bracket. For the Heat, it’s heartbreak in defeat but pride in effort, as they pushed one of the tournament’s most determined underdogs to the limit.
