Posnack Triumphs with Late-Game Magic to Win Tier 2 Championship

In an exciting and dramatic conclusion to the Tier 2 Championship, the Posnack Rams overcame a tough start and surged past the MTA Lions, claiming a 66-54 victory. The game, which featured standout performances and momentum shifts, highlighted the Rams’ resilience and ability to close out games when it mattered most.

The contest began with the MTA Lions asserting complete control. MTA’s defense stifled Posnack’s offense, leaving the Rams scoreless through the first quarter. Josh Treuhaft, the standout performer for the Lions, dominated the paint, contributing 6 points and grabbing 9 rebounds in just eight minutes. By the end of the first quarter, MTA had built an impressive 10-0 lead.

However, the second quarter marked a turning point. Posnack started to chip away at the Lions’ advantage, with Jonathan Rhein putting the Rams on the scoreboard with a layup halfway through the period. Despite continued strong play from Treuhaft, who hit a three-pointer and recorded a double-double before halftime, the Rams found their rhythm. A series of three-pointers from Posnack brought them back into the game, and they briefly took the lead. However, a clutch three-pointer from MTA’s Jacob Abenaim sent the Lions into the break with a narrow 26-24 advantage.

The momentum shifted decisively in the third quarter. Both teams traded baskets early, with Treuhaft and Rhein continuing to lead their squads. But Posnack’s Gideon Greenberg made his mark, hitting a key three-pointer and grabbing important rebounds to give the Rams a 43-38 lead heading into the final period.

In the fourth quarter, Posnack’s offense took over. Guy Shlomi became the hero for the Rams, sinking multiple clutch three-pointers that extended the lead and deflated MTA’s hopes of a comeback. Although Abenaim hit another three-pointer for the Lions, Posnack’s defense held strong, and the Rams’ balanced scoring attack proved too much for MTA.

Gideon Greenberg finished with a stellar double-double, contributing 21 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Rams. Jonathan Rhein added 16 points, while Guy Shlomi’s timely three-pointers finished with 16 points, including several in the final quarter to seal the win. For MTA, Treuhaft recorded an impressive double-double of his own, finishing with 16 points and 20 rebounds. Jacob Abenaim led the Lions in scoring with 17 points, but MTA’s offensive efforts fell short in the closing minutes.
