Freiden’s Floater Lifts Cooper MACCABEES in Final-Second Thriller Over Fasman!
- Updated: October 30, 2025

In one of the most dramatic finishes of the tournament, the Cooper Yeshiva High School MACCABEES edged out Rabbi Oscar Z. Fasman Yeshiva High School 47–45 in a nail-biter that went down to the wire. The crowd erupted as Benny Freiden sealed the victory with a smooth floater in the final minute, capping off a game defined by grit, composure, and big-time shot-making from both sides.
From the opening tip, it was clear this matchup would be a battle. Fasman’s star guard C. Zahtz came out firing, pouring in 20 points, while S. Lebedinsky added 19, keeping Fasman’s offense humming. Every time Cooper appeared to pull away, Fasman answered, with each possession growing more intense as the clock wound down.
But Cooper’s balance and poise made the difference. E. Weisfogel led the way with 14 points, attacking inside and hitting key midrange shots. Freiden followed closely with 12 — including the dagger floater that silenced Fasman’s final push. J. Kampf added 9 points and steady defense, while D. Kahane and G. Lichter each chipped in 5.
Fasman had a final look to tie the game in the closing seconds, but their last attempt rimmed out, sealing Cooper’s hard-earned two-point win.
Cooper’s 47–45 victory was a true team effort — a mix of clutch shooting, mental toughness, and a defining moment from Freiden, whose calm under pressure delivered the MACCABEES one of their most memorable wins yet.
