⚔️ Upset Alert! MDY Warriors Slay #2-Seeded Berman Cougars 61–52 in Tier I Stunner!
- Updated: October 31, 2025
The Magen David Yeshiva Warriors proved that heart and hustle can topple even the mightiest of seeds, pulling off one of the biggest upsets of Tier I play with a 61–52 victory over the #2-seeded Berman Hebrew Academy Cougars. Coming off a narrow two-point escape in the first round, MDY entered the matchup as underdogs — but left as giant-killers.
From the opening tip, it was clear the Warriors weren’t intimidated. Playing with intensity and precision, they matched Berman’s firepower with relentless energy and crisp ball movement. M. Althkefati led the charge with 16 points, attacking the basket fearlessly and finishing through contact. S. Chira added 13, providing a steady offensive rhythm, while I. Alfaks and J. Dweck each chipped in 9, giving MDY the balanced scoring they needed to keep the Cougars on their heels.
For Berman, A. August was sensational — pouring in 23 points and carrying the offense with his shot-making and leadership. G. Margulies (8 points) and J. Singer (7 points) contributed key buckets, but the Cougars struggled to find consistent looks against MDY’s tight defense.
The game’s turning point came midway through the third quarter. With the score close and momentum shifting, MDY ripped off a key 10–2 run sparked by Chira’s back-to-back baskets and Dweck’s timely three-pointer. From there, the Warriors never looked back — keeping their composure as Berman fought to close the gap.
In the fourth quarter, MDY’s defense sealed the deal. They forced turnovers, controlled the tempo, and hit clutch free throws down the stretch to close out the #2 seed.
When the buzzer sounded, the Warriors erupted — not just in celebration of the win, but in validation of their grit. After barely surviving the first round, MDY came alive when it mattered most, toppling a powerhouse and punching their ticket deeper into Tier I.
This was more than an upset — it was a statement: the Warriors are for real, and the Cougars just got clawed.
