The Storm Raged, But the Hawks Stayed Dry — HAFTR Survives Katz’s Downpour, 59–55!
- Updated: October 31, 2025
In an intense Tier 2 matchup between two powerhouse programs, the #6-seeded HAFTR Hawks held off a furious second-half rally from the #3-seeded KATZ Storm to secure a 59–55 victory and advance to the next round. The game featured physical defense, momentum swings, and a dramatic comeback effort that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the final buzzer.
Both teams opened with strong defensive stands, making early scoring difficult. KATZ struck first, using quick transitions and disciplined positioning to jump ahead in the opening minutes. However, HAFTR soon settled in, finding their rhythm behind the perimeter shooting of N. Mayer and D. Naumberg, who combined for multiple key buckets to give the Hawks control.
By the end of the first quarter, HAFTR led 15–11, capitalizing on efficient offense and steady ball movement. In the second quarter, the Hawks’ momentum surged — A. Freundlich and J. Kaplan contributed critical points as HAFTR stretched their lead to 36–18 at halftime. Their defense tightened, forcing turnovers and limiting KATZ’s scoring opportunities.
The second half told a different story. Determined not to go quietly, the Storm came alive behind N. Okaknin, who delivered a commanding 26-point performance, driving to the basket with intensity and converting tough shots under pressure. Supported by I. Attias with 10 points and a balanced effort from A. Kaweblum, A. Kieffer, and J. Kogan, KATZ began to chip away at the deficit.
By the end of the third quarter, the Storm had narrowed the gap to 47–40, showing resilience and renewed energy on both ends of the floor. KATZ continued to push in the fourth, drawing within a few possessions after trailing by as many as 22 earlier in the game. However, clutch free throws and steady execution from HAFTR’s veterans helped the Hawks weather the storm in the closing minutes.
When the final buzzer sounded, HAFTR escaped with a 59–55 win — a testament to their composure and balanced scoring attack.
While HAFTR advances, KATZ can hold their heads high after a valiant comeback effort that nearly overturned what seemed like an insurmountable halftime deficit. Both teams displayed exceptional determination and skill, leaving everything on the court in a true Tier 2 classic.
