It was a battle of the Storms! The 5th-seeded TABC Storm took on the 13-seeded Weinbaum Yeshiva High School Storm in a second-round Tier I matchup on Friday afternoon. Weinbaum continued to build on their momentum from their upset win on Thursday, getting off to a fast 5-0 start, while TABC struggled to find a rhythm. TABC then got their groove back, going on a 9-1 run, with the score at the end of the quarter, 9-6, in favor of TABC.

In the second quarter, neither team dominated, but TABC kept its lead, despite their starting point guard Aaron Heideman’s struggles. Solo Shulman led the way for TABC, finishing the half with five points, while Doni Baratz provided solid offense down low for Weinbaum, recording four points in the half. The score at the end of the half was 21-14, in favor of TABC.

In the third quarter, sparked by Yitzchak Kaminetsky’s three consecutive threes, Weinbaum got back in the game, and even had the score tied up at one point. The game stayed close, with Weinbaum unable to take the lead and TABC unable to pull away. Dan Poleyff played well for TABC, finishing with 14 in the third. TABC held on for a three point lead to end the quarter.

In the fourth quarter, TABC came out strong, extending their lead to nine at one point. Weinbaum was misfiring, but staying in it. Weinbaum took a big hit when big man Doni Baratz fouled out (10 pts). After TABC incurred a technical, Weinbaum converted on two free throws, which put them within three points. Yitzchak Kaminetzky would then hit an amazing game-tying three with a minute and a half left in regulation. After Solo Shulman then knocked down two free throws for TABC, Gerzberg hit another free throw, and TABC went up by three with a minute left. Evan Jacoby put Weinbaum within one with two free throws on the ensuing possession. Weinbaum then regained possession, and PG Jered Stern went to the line for Weinbaum, hitting his first, tying the game at 46 with four seconds left. Solo Shulman missed the game winning shot, and the game went into overtime.

In OT, Weinbaum had the lead, but TABC fought back. Moshe Brum of TABC stole it, and tied the game back up. The game remained tied and went into double overtime.

In double-OT, TABC took the lead, but could not clinch the game even after having multiple attempts, but went on to win it when Jacob Danis missed the potential game winning three-pointer. TABC won by a final score of 57-54. Evan Jacoby scored 14 points to lead WYHS, while Moshe Brum led TABC with 16 points.
