Yeshiva U. Head Men’s Basketball Coach Elliott Steinmetz to Attend Invitational

Yeshiva University’s head men’s basketball coach, Elliot Steinmetz, will once again attend the Invitational representing YU in its continued lead partnership with the annual event.

Steinmetz, a 2002 graduate of YU’s Sy Syms School of Business who lettered on YU’s basketball team for three seasons from 1999-02, is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the men’s basketball program while ensuring the academic success of its student-athletes.

He has served with distinction as head coach of the varsity basketball team at Northshore Hebrew Academy High School and of the gold medal-winning United States 18 and Under Boys Basketball Team for the Maccabiah Games in Israel.

In his first three years at the helm, Steinmetz led the men’s basketball team to three straight appearances in the Skyline Conference Championships. In his second year, the Maccabees won 12 Skyline games which tied a program record. That same year, Yeshiva hosted and won its first home playoff game since the 2001-02 season.

In 2016-17, Steinmetz was voted the Skyline Conference Coach of the Year by all the coaches in the conference. He led the Maccabees to a 15-10 overall record and 11-5 in Skyline play.

This year, Coach Steinmetz will be joined by assistant coach, Daniel Tamir.

Prior to coaching at Yeshiva, Tamir played seven years of professional basketball at the Division I level in Israel and Hungary. He managed basketball camps for youth since 2012 in Israel and in New York, gaining years of skill development experience with all ages.

Tamir played in the junior teams of the Hapoel Jerusalem Basketball Club during the 2012-13 season, playing alongside numerous former NBA players. He also represented Israel in the U16 and U18 national teams as the starting center from 2009-2012.

A native of Jerusalem, Israel, Tamir earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from College of Managament, Rishon LeZion in 2016. He is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and Finance Management at Yeshiva University.
