#1 MDY Warriors advance to final 4; defeat #8 Scheck Hillel LIONS 61-35!
- Updated: November 2, 2018

On Friday morning, the Magen David Warriors faced the Scheck Hillel Lions. As the game began MDY jumped out to an early start with layups from Ray Jajati, Albert Nsiri, and Teddy Cohen. Michael Natkin added a free throw giving the Warriors an early 7-0 lead. However, the Lions came right back. Alan Berkman hit a three and Andres Bacal hit a layup to cut the lead to two. The Warriors came right back, though, with layups from Teddy Cohen and a tip-in from Michael Natkin. Albert Nsiri hit a foul shot and so did Teddy Cohen moving the score to 13-5 with the Warriors in the lead. Aaron Ben-Shmuel hit a free throw in an attempt to bring the Lions back in this fast pace game, but the Warriors came right back with a layup from Nsir. With another layup for the warriors by Jajat, the warriors now had a ten point lead, ending the quarter with the score 19-9.
The second quarter began with a layup from Ray Jajati for the Warriors, but the Lions’ Alan Berkman came right back down to match it. Victor Braca and Albert Nsisi hit a free throw each to give the Warriors a twelve point lead. Alan Berkman went down and hit his third three of the game to cut that lead to nine. Albert Nsiri got a fast-break layup to push it back to eleven, but Berkman hit yet another three to make the deficit just eight. Michael Natkin came right back and hit a pair of free throws to push it back to a ten point lead for the Warriors. The half ended with the Warriors leading 29- 18.
The second half tipped off with MDY’s Cohen stealing the inbound pass and taking down to the other end and hitting a beautiful three-pointer. The story continued with more steals by MDY helping to raise their lead further. Sheck’s Gilbert made a layup that ended Sheck’s scoring drought. The 2nd quarter came to an end with an alley-oop for the Warriors to end the half.
The second half played out much the same way as the first. MDY proved why they were the #1 seeded team in this year’s tournament. Although Scheck played an admirable game, MDY was too much for them. The game ended with MDY winning 61-35. MDY moves on to the semi-finals saturday night and Scheck will try to recover in the Teir 1 consolation bracket.
